Sony unveils Xperia Z1 (Honami), QX lens-style camera

Sony officially unveiled the hotly anticipated Xperia Z1 that has become well-known under the internal petname Honami. The Z1 brought friends on stage – the QX line of lens-style cameras and a number of other accessories.

The Z1 is undoubtedly the star of the show – measuring just 8.5mm in thickness, the Xperia Z1 houses a large 1/2.3" sensor – that's about 70% larger than the sensors on most phones and Sony achieved it without a hump on the back like most other handsets with large sensors.
The camera uses all-Sony tech – an F/2.0 Sony G Lens, a Sony Exmor RS sensor and a Sony BIONZ image processor.
The camera shoots 20.7MP stills and records 1080p video (sorry, no 4K). Sony has developed a custom camera app that offers manual controls and impressive augmented reality features. Third-party devs will be able to use the advanced features of the camera to make their own apps as well.

The Xperia Z1 justifies its name by borrowing the best features of the Xperia Z – slim, water resistant body with OmniBalance design, a sharp 5" 1080p screen and powerful Snapdragon chipset. However, the Z1 is certified to go deeper underwater, it has a new, higher-quality screen and it packs the latest Snapdragon 800 chipset running a Sony-customized version of Android 4.3. And the battery capacity has been bumped up to 3,000mAh.
The new flagship has 4G LTE connectivity, along with Wi-Fi a/b/g/n and NFC, which are used to connect with the next couple of gadgets.
The Sony Xperia Z1 will be available this month in Black, White and Purple.

The Sony Cyber-shot QX line of lens-style cameras launches with two models – the QX100 and QX10. Both have their own optics and image sensor and can use an Android or iOS device as viewfinder (pairing is done with NFC if available then the image is streamed over Wi-Fi).
The QX100 has a huge 1" Exmor R sensor with 20.2MP resolution, F/1.8 ZEISS Vario-Sonar T* lens, 3.6x optical zoom and stabilization – the same specs as the acclaimed Sony RX100M II. The QX10 is more compact and features a longer zoom range – 10x – and has a Sony G Lens coupled with a 1/2.3" 18.2MP Exmor R sensor.

Sony Cyber-shot QX100
Both lens-style cameras shoot 1,440 x 1080p video at 30 frames per second and have enough juice in their batteries for 230 shots (or 55-65 minutes of video recording depending on the model). The QX cameras can attach to smartphones of various sizes and some Xperia phones will get dedicated cases that protect the phone and offer an attachment point for the camera. Both QX100 and QX10 can work separately from the phone, while still streaming to the viewfinder, which makes framing in tight spots a breeze.

Sony Cyber-shot QX10
The Sony Cyber-shot QX100 and QX10 are available for pre-order in the UK starting today and will go on sale in Europe by the end of September. The QX100 will cost you $500 and the QX10 is half that at $250. For comparison, the RX100M II that has the same lens and sensor as the QX100 is $750.

XBOX GO IS A 8 INCH FULL HD GAMING TABLET

Created by Deviantart member MetroUI, the Xbox Go is a gaming tablet with an 8 inch Full HD screen and some very interesting perks. Its accessories include a gaming controller that feels more like Nintendo than Xbox.
Xbox Go is an 8 Inch Full HD Gaming Tablet With a Special Controller
The Xbox Go tablet concept features an Xbox OS clearly based on Metro UI, 6 GB of RAM, an AMD APU and a controller dock. The controller you see here is Xbox One compatible and we get a mobile version of Kinect included in the slate. Its battery should provide about 7 hours of gaming, very impressive for an 8 inch tablet.
The device’s sharp edges may not feel very comfortable after a long gaming session, but if the material is good, the device may be just fine. I can see such a product succeeding, but only with a price like $200 or even less. Is there room on the market for an Xbox tablet?

SAMSUNG S4 LAUNCHER FOR ALL DROID PHONES

Yesterday I was e-mailed the apk of this launcher that is supposed to be an S4 look-a-like according to the person who sent it to me but it's quite far from being a clone of the S4's launcher.
These days have been tough for me and I can't really take the time into trying to remember of which launcher this is based off so I'll leave that up to you if you manage to recognize it.

There are things about this launcher that can be bothering. One of them is the fact that you cannot drag the dock app drawer icon, it's stickied to the center.
Another problem I've noticed is the conflict between the desktop column settings and widget's sizes. It's hard to explain, you can see for yourself.

HTC ONE WINDOW ADS

Bob Freking has imagined the way that a possible HTC One Windows Phone edition may look like and it may resemble the design shown in the image below. This model is supposed to be the successor of the HTC 8X model and it will keep pretty much 99% of the design of HTC One.
HTC One Windows Phone Edition Gets Rendered
Windows Phone 8 GDR3 update will run on this phone and it comes with support for 1080p screens and a quad core CPU. The screen is still the same 4.7 inch Super LCD 3 unit and at the back we’ve got a 4 megapixel Ultrapixel camera and upfront there’s a wide angle front cam. Beats Audio and BoomSound is also here and inside the HTC One Windows Phone is a Snapdragon 600 CPU.
There’s also a rumor about a HTC One Mini unit, but we don’t have too much info about that. I like the design of the HTC One smartphone and I also appreciated the HTC 8X. Do we need a change or the same design yet again?

SONY XPERIA ZX IS A 6 INCH TRILUMINUS SMARTPHONE

Since Sony may have taken things too far with the Xperia Z Ultra, with its huge 6.44 inch display. Is this a phone? Is this a tablet? It’s not even a phablet! Well, we have a Z Ultra Mini, if I can call it that way, the Sony Xperia ZX, a concept sent to us by uva7 dance.
Sony Xperia ZX is a 6 Inch Triluminous Smartphone
We’re dealing here with a 6 inch smartphone with a Full HD resolution and TFT IPS Triluminous panel. Inside the device we find a Snapdragon 800 2.5 GHz processor, 4 GB of RAM and 64 or 128 GB of internal storage. There’s also the option of adding an extra 128 GB via microSD and at the back we find a 2 x 20 megapixel camera with 2160p video and 30 fps, plus optical stabilization.
There’s stereo sound, Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie as the OS and a fingerprint scanner in the mix. Powering up this giant is a 4000 mAh battery and we’ve even got a stylus covered. The thickness is 6 mm for this model. Fancy such a huge Xperia concept

Sony Xperia ZX is a 6.1 Inch edge to edge flexibel display:
Full HD resolution and TFT IPS Triluminous panel. Inside the device Snapdragon 900,
2.6 GHz processor,
4 GB of RAM and 150 GB of internal storage and 200 GB micro SD card
40 megapixel rear camera with 60 fps and 8 megapixel camera front facing for better video call,
5.1 Android Key Lime Pie as the OS and a fingerprint scanner in the mix,
Sterio with 3D Sound doul speaker Up and Down (e.g- Nokia N73),
5.0 Bluetooth and wi-fi high feature,

GALAXY S6

I had my doubts about the efficiency of a 5 inch display on a smartphone, but the likes of Xperia Z and Samsung Galaxy S4 proved me wrong, as they’re very comfortable devices to use. Now we move further, to 6 inches via the new Samsung Galaxy S6 render, shown below.
Samsung Galaxy S6 Already Rendered, Switches to 6 Inch Display
The render was sent to us by uva7 dance and it depicts the Samsung flagship phone of 2015. The camera at the back is weirdly similar to the one of the Nokia EOS, that recently leaked on the web. As you can see the side of the phone looks a bit like the iPhone meets HTC One, while the back is clean and only stands out through the Xenon flash packing camera with 33 MP resolution.
For some reason at the bottom we’ve got physical buttons and the specs of the Galaxy S6 include a Full HD 6 inch display (Super AMOLED), 6 GB of RAM, 32/64/128 GB of storage, a 33 megapixel camera at the back and a front 8 MP shooter, plus a 4000 mAh battery. This is a dual SIM phone that measures 6 mm in thickness and I can’t understand why the designer skipped Galaxy S5 and went straight to this model. Also, isn’t 6 GB of RAM too much?
[Thanks Uva7 Dance]

Samsung Galaxy S5 By Bob Freking is Ready! Aluminum Back, 64 GPU Cores

Bob Freking had a pretty nifty Galaxy S4 concept before the handset was launched and now he’s back with the Galaxy S5 he promised. As you know, we had a teaser for you here and now that teaser has turned into a full blow picture gallery and video.
Samsung Galaxy S5 By Bob Freking is Ready! Aluminum Back, 64 GPU Cores (Video)
Bob’s Galaxy S5 concept is accompanied by epic music in the video below and the device packs a 16 megapixel S camera with optical image stabilization and 6X lossless zoom. There’s also support for add on lenses and this cam takes in 10 times more light, bringing it to the best low light performance in the world of mobile. At the back we’ve got a waterproof aluminum cover and upfront the design reminds me of the HTC One X a bit…
Samsung Galaxy S5 By Bob Freking is Ready! Aluminum Back, 64 GPU Cores (Video)
This Samsung Galaxy S5 render also involves a 5 inch Full HD Super AMOLED Plus display with better pixel arrangement than the Galaxy S4. We’ve also got a new TouchWiz with fresh gestures and less memory usage. The CPU here is a 2 GHz 8 core Exynos 6 with 64 GPU cores and specs also include 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal memory. The smartphone is capable of 4G LTE and it’s even prepared for 5G…
This device comes with wireless charging, it’s light at 120 grams and an thin at 7mm in thickness. The Samsung Galaxy S5 made by Bob Freking relies on a 4000 mAh battery, it will have a Google Edition and it runs Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. Fancy this model?

Ubuntu Eon Superphone

Once every two weeks or so, Ubuntu is a topic of discussion in the world of smartphones. Everyone wants an Ubuntu superphone, not just customized software running on existing hardware. Well, Rahul Sharma imagined such a device and created the Ubuntu Eon Superphone by Canonical.
Ubuntu Eon Smartphone by Canonical, Designed by Rahul Sharma
The tagline for the product is “the first canonical surprise”, since the phone is developed by Canonical itself, in this theory. The handset you see here is made from a blend of polycarbonate (front), while the back is all chrome. The back side has a beautiful design and has a specifically engraved Ubuntu logo. Specs of this Ubuntu smartphone include the Ubuntu Touch OS, LTE, a 2.3 GHz Snapdragon 800 processor and 2 GB of LPDDR3 RAM.
Ubuntu Eon Smartphone by Canonical, Designed by Rahul Sharma
There’s also a 5 inch Full HD display on board with oleophobic coating and Gorilla Glass 3. AT the back we’ve got a 13 megapixel camera with optical stabilization developed by Nikkon lenses. The front camera is a 3.2 MP unit with 720p capability and we’ve also got SRS premium Surround sound and the usual sensors. Finally, we’ve also got a HDMI port for extending the Ubuntu experience onto the desktop.
The Ubuntu phone you see here measures just 6.7 mm in waistline, has augmented reality, gesture recognition, 64 GB of internal storage and a 3000 mAh battery. I really enjoy this design. Do you?
[Thanks Rahul]

SAMSUNG NEXUS 5

Every month out of the past 6 held a brand new Nexus 5 concept for us and June is no exception. This time we get a fresh render of the next gen Nexus smartphone, that’s codenamed Megalodon and is created by Andreas Lossau.
New Nexus 5 Concept Created by Andreas Lossau Features Snapdragon 800 CPU
This Nexus 5 concept features a custom Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 SoC, MSM8994G (Google Edition), a 4 core Krait 400 clocked between 48 MHz and 2352 MHz. There’s support for 4K UHD decoding and encoding and the GPU is the Adreno 425G. Inside the handset we find 2 GB of LPDDR3 RAM, an ultra low powered DSP core and a Qualcomm modem.
New Nexus 5 Concept Created by Andreas Lossau Features Snapdragon 800 CPU
Upfront we have a 5.3 inch Sharp IGZO display with Full HD resolution and low power usage, while out at the back the designer placed a 13 megapixel camera with Pelican Imaging technology, 4K UHD video recording and 1080p capture at 120 FPS. We’ve got 3 dual membrane microphones, enhanced noise cancellation, stereo sound recording, HDR video recording and instant preview. Nexus 5 also uses a 2.1 MP wide angle front camera, a removable 6900 mAh Li-Ion battery with a new technology involving nanowire anodes instead of silicon ones.
The case is all aluminum unibody, with the antennas behind the polycarbonate stripes. Would you like this to be the next Nexus? I like the back of the phone very much, since it’s so minimalistic.

NOKIA XPRES SHOOT XS5

It’s nice to look at concepts from a few years ago and see what could have been. For example, the Nokia XpresShot XS5 here could have been a kickass Symbian device or maybe an Android one. Created by Deviantart member clintgt, the device looks like a very solid media smartphones.
Nokia XpresShot XS5 is a Blast From the Near Past
Nokia XpresShot XS5 comes with a 64 GB SSD, up to 2 GB of application memory, Bluetooth 3.0 with 24 Mbps transfer and a brand new interface. The OS on board is also totally new and it’s called Zilo, being a new project of the folks behind Symbian. This Nokia concept phone design comes with an 18.1 megapixel camera with Full HD video recording and other features include a 4 inch OLED display with 720p resolution and widescreen format.
The handset uses a CMOS sensor, Carl Zeiss Tessar lens, a Xenon and LED flash and 6x digital zoom. plus a full screen viewfinder. Nokia XpresShot XS5, as imagined by the Deviantart designer relies on a TI OMAP 3430 ARM Cortex A8 1.5 GHz processor, supports quad band connectivity and has a gyromagnetic meter for a new level of gaming, that allows you to move the finger through the air to control the game. Would this work nowadays?

FINALY COME PRINTER PHONES

After an avalanche of rectangular and boring handsets, we’re finally getting some innovative designs, that we found on the Coroflot page of designer Yong Hwan Kwon, of Rochester, New York. His designs and very elaborate and original, but today we’ll only deal with two of them.
Finally Some Original Phones! Printer Phone and Projector Phone Concepts Are Here!
The first is the one shown above, the Printer Phone, that looks a bit like an MP3 player, is very thin and for some reason it’s Nokia branded. The phone is able to print stuff up from its lower part, in a way that may feel a bit like a Polaroid picture being taken. I like the form factor of the device with curved edges and very thin body, plus an extendable lower side.
Also, nice handle at the top. Then comes the Projector Phone shown below, that also looks like a media player or maybe a Sony Ericsson unit from back in the days. This one gets a sort of thumbstick in the middle, directional buttons and a projector incorporated on the side, that will project a virtual keyboard. How cool are these?
